Frugal Is the New Green

Frugal is the new green! That’s right, saving money can also be good for the planet. When it comes to decorating your home, reused materials are the way to go. Even if you’re not much of a “dumpster diver,” you can still find great stuff regardless of the type of decor in your home.
Shop the Thrift Stores from Some Great 70s Finds
For example, got a contemporary room that needs some updating? Scope out resale shops like Goodwill and the Salvation army store. You can find awesome, 70s inspired chairs and tables that fit nicely with a modern decorating vibe. Many of these were sitting in someone’s basement, which means they are still in good shape and ready to come into your home.
Get the Shabby Chic Look From Items at a Flea Market
If shabby chic or French country is your thing, flea markets are the best source for you. Take advantage of tables, chairs, and chandeliers that offer reduced prices because, let’s face it, they’re a little worse for wear. Spray a fresh coat of paint on that chandelier to make it look brand new – but not too new! Add crystals as you go to save on cost. When you see them cheap, pick them up!
Another Person’s Trash Is….
If your decorating style falls somewhere between modern and country, frugal home goods can still be found for you. Scope out rummage sales to see who is getting rid of an old dresser or pair of drapes. Use the drapes as fabric to recover a chair you love and paint the dresser with a dark coat of spray paint. Hang a dangle ornament on the pulls, and you’ve got a new piece – designed especially for you.
