Centerpiece Ideas

A table set with dishes, candles, and a nice centerpiece is a lovely way to show off a little decorating personality. Centerpieces can be created on your everyday kitchen table, dining room table, or even the coffee table. Here are a few ideas to make them memorable.
Use the Season as Your Guide
In the Fall months, I allow the colors and cooler temps to inspire me when it comes to table decorations. On the coffee table, I have a glass pumpkin I picked up at Walgreens filled with orange candy corn. On our dining room table, I have synthetic leaves I found at the dollar store. They are meant for scrapbooking, but why not use them for the table instead? Our kitchen table has a pumpkin we covered in glue and orange-red glitter.
I change these centerpieces as the season dictates. Sometimes a large candle with the colors of spring is in order, sometimes an Easter basket. Or, in winter, sometimes I’ll put a glass with some cinnamon or peppermint sticks in it. The purpose of the centerpiece is just to add a little spice to your table, so you don’t need to over-think it.
Use Vintage Items
I have a lot of things I collect at flea markets and rummage sales. I love the vintage feel of older things, and if they are from my own family? Even better. I used to have a camera with blue bulbs from the 60s, and put the camera on the table with the bulbs in a vase. I got so many comments on that centerpiece because it became a conversation point.
Make it Personal
Got a collection you’d like to share? Add a few pieces as your centerpiece. Or how about photos? Remember those old plastic photo cubes? Why not stack a few in a pyramid and use that as your centerpiece. Be sure it can be seen from all sides (as opposed to using a picture frame).
Nothing is worse than a home filled with things that have no meaning for you personally. Remember, it’s your home. You may want it to look nice for when other people come over, but it should also please you. So be sure to add your own unique touch.
