I’ll admit that the first time I had heard of a groom’s cake, it was in the movie Steel Magnolias. Not surprisingly, I had come to find out that the groom’s cake was a southern tradition. The cake is usually created or order by the bride, and is meant to honor the husband-to-be. Many times the cake just a tad bit smaller than the actual wedding cake, but no less flavorful. The cake is often made by a professional baker, but sometimes a family friend may offer to do it as well.
The thing to remember with a groom’s cake are unique traits about the husband-to-be because the cake is all about him. It should reflect his personality or interests in some way, and it should be a flavor he really enjoys. It’s also a nice idea to have the groom’s cake a completely different style and flavor from the actual wedding cake.
Here are some more ideas to create the perfect groom’s cake for your man.
Hobbies
Honoring your man’s hobbies in the form of a cake is a great way to come up with a unique design for the groom’s cake. If he’s a huge TV watcher, why not a cake with a remote? Or if he loves movies, a projection reel and movie tickets. If he likes to paint, you could create a mock canvas with one of his designs.
Sports
If sports are his passion, try creating a golf course, football field, or basketball court. Or, use the ball itself as your inspiration for baseball or soccer.
Favorite Foods
If there is a favorite dish your man loves, honor it by recreating it in the form of a cake. There are many kid’s birthday cake ideas that you can also use for a groom’s cake, like this adorable burger cake idea from Betty Crocker.
Special Achievements
Is your man the winner of the local hot dog contest seven years in a row? Or does he hold his school record in basketball layups? These kind of unique achievements are a great way to honor your guy.
