Artwork can make a home feel warmer and more suited to your personality, but it’s also expensive. Even so, don’t let your walls remain bare! There are plenty of ways to get artwork without breaking the bank. Here are a few tips.
Buy Inexpensive Frames
Frames can get pricey, so shop around to get the best value. Purchase frames from stores like Ikea or Walmart, or do as I do and get them from rummage sales. I look for people selling frames, or even pictures that I can toss and keep the frame. A little paint or stain goes far when it comes to jazzing up an old frame and making it look like new again.
Frame Old Calendar Prints
Some calendars have absolutely gorgeous artwork. Don’t let it go to waste. Get inexpensive frames and then pair them with a pretty picture from your calendar. Once the picture is put under glass and hung up you won’t know it came from a calendar.
Shop Thrift Stores
You’d be surprised at some of the wonderful pieces you can pick up at Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or your local rummage sale. Don’t forget estate sales, either! Remember how I picked up those fabulous Renoir pictures for just $5 each?
Make it Yourself!
Got some artistic talents in your veins? Put it to good use by creating a one-of-a-kind picture. Or, have the whole family take part by painting on a large canvas. Each can use a certain color, design, or theme.
Blow Up Photos
Watch for sales at photo developing places like Walgreens, where you can enlarge a favorite photo. Some will even do poster size. What could be better than commemorating an event or special family moment with a framed photo? Poster sized frames are also very inexpensive. Again, when you get it up on the wall, you’ll be surprised at how nice it looks even though you didn’t spend a ton of money.
